SADDLEBAGS & SECATEURS
Volunteer Maintenance Group for the Clay Trails
Saddlebags & Secateurs is a voluntary community scheme to encourage groups and individuals to use the Clay Trails to help keep them in good order. Maintenance days involve tasks such as vegetation clearance, tree planting, repairing damage to shelters, signage, gates and boardwalks, as well as light trail surface repair as required. The work is suitable for people of all ages and abilities and children are very welcome as long as they are supervised by an adult.
Refreshments and tools are provided and no knowledge is required. Bring stout footwear and suitable old clothing for the weather.
We hope you can join us for some of the dates below. Please do encourage friends and family to come along too so that we can continue to expand as a group. Most sessions take place between 10am - 3pm or 6pm - 8pm. Please check individual events for details. More dates may be added. Lunch on most day-tasks will be provided: please phone the office so we know how many are coming.

Look out for three iconic new sculptures, situated at the start of the clay trails! The ground breaking Groundwork project 'Creative Links' was funded by the Heritage Lottery. Artist blacksmiths Gary and Thomas Thrussell held copper beating, pattern making and forge workshops at the China Clay Country Park throughout August 2007. A total of sixteen people took part in the workshops and provided drawings or ideas for the design of the sculpture. Other workshops took place in St Blazey and Bugle for sculptures to be made out of sandstone and granite respectively. The Bugle workshops took place alongside a local youth club. Eleven young people were working with the artist to come up with the design for a granite Shire Horse sculpture. The workshops in St Blazey have included lino printing, carving and a site visit to look at the flora and fauna around the sculpture installation site. The project has given local people the opportunity to work with artists, to research and help design the heritage sculptures for the Clay Trails. |
